Generator and the FE survey are distinctly different. The survey is a data collection process that enables Becta to produce, review and share sector-wide statistics on the strategic and effective use of technology within the FE and Skills sector. Generator is a leadership improvement tool, developed to enable leaders and managers to review their deployment of technology across their organisation, identify strengths and opportunities for improvement; reflect on these results and inform their strategy and planning going forwards.
Although distinctly different in purpose, there is synergy between the two as they are both aligned to the Harnessing Technology Strategy and therefore follow a similar structure. This alignment is valuable both strategically and on a practical level; once established, managers who have used Generator should find completing the survey quicker, as some of the information required has already been collated (and vice versa).
